The guide behind Mystic Siang
A native son of the Siang valley, sharing the Northeast with the people who come to see it.

The Siang country of East Siang — John's home ground.
Meet John Tayeng
Born to the river that gives us our name
John Tayeng grew up in Mebo village in East Siang, on the banks of the Siang — the great river that flows down out of the mountains and eventually becomes the Brahmaputra. He belongs to the Adi, and much of what he shares with travellers is simply the world he was raised in: the villages, the forests, the festivals and the quiet courtesies of a life lived close to the land.
For more than fifteen years he has guided visitors across Arunachal Pradesh and the wider Northeast, in every season and to every corner he could reach. Over that time he has built the thing that matters most in this part of the world — trust: with families who open their homes, with drivers who know the roads, and with the communities whose welcome makes an authentic journey possible.
He is, above all, a heritage enthusiast. He would rather you left Arunachal having understood a little of how its people live than having simply ticked off its viewpoints — and he builds every journey with that in mind.

Best Tour Guide, Arunachal Tourism
On World Tourism Day 2023, the Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, honoured John Tayeng with a Certificate of Excellence in the Best Tour Guide category, for his outstanding contribution to the tourism sector.
It is recognition of something travellers feel the moment they arrive: that they are in the hands of someone who knows this land intimately, and cares deeply about sharing it well.
