About Mopin Festival
Mopin is the most celebrated festival of the Galo tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, observed every year in April to welcome prosperity, happiness, and a bountiful harvest. Deeply rooted in the agricultural traditions of the Galo people, the festival is dedicated to seeking the blessings of Mopin Ane, the goddess of abundance, for peace, good fortune, and the well-being of the community.
The festival comes alive with traditional rituals, vibrant cultural performances, folk songs, and lively community feasts. One of its most distinctive traditions is the application of Ette, a white rice flour paste, on family, friends, and visitors as a symbol of purity, peace, prosperity, and good luck. The graceful Popir Dance, performed by women dressed in elegant traditional attire, is a highlight of the celebrations and beautifully reflects the cultural richness of the Galo community.
For travellers, Mopin offers a rare opportunity to experience the warmth of Galo hospitality, witness centuries-old traditions, and immerse themselves in one of Arunachal Pradesh's most colourful and joyful cultural festivals.
