About Solung Festival
Solung is the most important festival of the Adi tribe and one of the grandest cultural celebrations in Arunachal Pradesh. Celebrated annually in September after the sowing season, the festival is dedicated to seeking blessings for a prosperous harvest, good health, peace, and the well-being of the community.
The celebrations extend over several days and are filled with traditional rituals, vibrant folk dances, melodious songs, and community feasts. Villagers gather in colourful traditional attire to honour their deities, celebrate their agricultural heritage, and strengthen the bonds of family and community. The rhythmic Ponung dance, performed by Adi women accompanied by traditional chants, is one of the festival's most captivating cultural highlights.
For visitors, Solung offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich traditions, warm hospitality, and living heritage of the Adi people. It is a celebration where culture, community, and nature come together, providing an authentic glimpse into the heart of Arunachal Pradesh.
